Review: The Kitchen, Bristol

Want a nutritious and seriously tasty lunch in BS1 without spending too much?

Well, The Kitchen has become a bit of a lunchtime staple for me – the hot dishes change daily and there is also a great selection of fresh sandwiches, quiche and their lovely mini (but more than adequate for lunchtime) pizzas. You can also add their selection of salads to every dish, so you get a veritable feast of flavour on every plate.

Their cakes are also decidedly delicious; if you want to get through the day without dashing in there to buy one (or three) slices, I suggest you don’t look at their Twitter…

The interior is large, light and spacious and even on busier days you should still be able to find a seat.

However, the nicest thing about The Kitchen is that it forms part of The Station, a youth centre next door which provides accommodation, facilities and services to young people, some of whom do apprenticeships at The Kitchen.

The venue aims to be a community hub and in addition to working alongside the youth centre it also hosts numerous events and also has a ‘suspended drinks’ scheme which they don’t shout about enough, so next time you go in you can also pay in advance for a drink for someone who can’t afford it, whether they’re homeless, a student, or just struggling with money at the moment – no questions asked.

So, nice people, great food AND you’ll be doing your bit for the local community – what more reason do you need to pay a visit?
