We get some very exciting emails through to us ladies at SaucyPans – especially so if they mention the words ‘cake’, and this one mentioned bringing cake to my desk at work, so of course I said yes!
Café du Jour has two branches across the city; one on Whiteladies Road, and the other one I’m more familiar with on Park Street. The Park St branch is lovely inside and always has a nice welcoming atmosphere. I’ve always tended to opt for a coffee and pastry when I’ve popped in, but the menu features some tempting quiches, sandwiches and other special French style treats from soup to croque monsieur, yum!
So, on one particularly dull Thursday I returned to my desk to find a huge box of treats, which contained a couple of different sandwich baguettes, quiches and cakey things – so much joy in one box!
The baguettes we had were the Baguette Basque (Cajun chicken, roasted veg, salad and sweet chilli sauce) and Baguette Chevre (Goat’s cheese, sweet red peppers, French mayonnaise and salad) – both were packed with fillings and tasted good, although the sweet chilli sauce did overpower most of the other fillings in the chicken baguette, which was a shame.
Both the Quiche Lorraine and quiche with goat’s cheese & beetroot were lovely – the pastry was just the right thickness, buttery and crisp. The quiches were pretty deep too – lots of tasty filling and my colleague’s were particularly complimentary about them!
The brownie and flapjack also went down very well – look at François’s happy little face in that photo. That is a man enjoying his brownie; enjoying it very much I’d wager.
Café du Jour deliver working lunch buffets if you’re in need of that sort of thing; I’m still more likely to pop into their Park St branch for a coffee and a snack, but it’s always worth knowing your options.
They often have deals on, so keep an eye to their Twitter page for details!
Disclaimer Doodle: We were sent these lunchtime munchies free of charge, but were not asked to write a positive review or send any copy in advance, we just really like their sangers!
